LANDSCAPE RESEARCH: A NEW PIAZZA FOR STERPARA

Location: SP55a, Sterpara, Area 24, Rome, Lazio

The purpose for this project is to improve the existing city - Sterpara, Rome. Sterpara is a small city or town that is located along the highway SP55a just above the city of Zagarolo. There are originally two types of city structures in Sterpara. The first type is the landscaping. The city is surrounded with both spontaneous and non-spontaneous structure, such as orchards, fields, farmlands, and trees. The second type of city structure is the housing units. The intention for this project is to bring Sterpara to life.

My design and development of the future plan of the project included four points.

  1. Border “City Walk”

    • The border of the city can be defined as a boundary for protection and edge of the area. Along the border, I have designed a pedestrian path for people to circulate around the edge of the city. People who live in Sterpara, for example, can have a morning run, walk their dogs or jog around the border.

  2. Core

    • The center of the city is the main core where I have designed a space for people to gather and for connectivity. The core is the most essential area where it is representing Sterpara. I have designed a piazza in the center where it was originally a fruit orchard and olive grove.

  3. Main Road

    • The primary street that can access to Sterpara is highway SP55a – Via Pedemontana. The street is the only way for visitors to come in and out of the city. The primary street is connected to the piazza, parking, and all the alleys to the farmsteads.

  4. Bus Stop

    • I have design two bus stops at the piazza for visitors who utilize public transportation to travel since the Sterpara is not connected to anywhere.
